General Update, Version 0.2.4

Hello again!

It has been a while since I made a post here, so I wanted to share some updates. Over the past year I’ve primarily been working on the game’s visuals. Most notably, the overworld has been completely overhauled. The existing cutscenes have also gotten touched up/re-worked in various ways. The materials in the game are both more detailed and more consistent with each other as well. I’ve also re-done the promotional art and put together a trailer.

Beyond that, the game now provides better instructions for the controls, with automatic switching between keyboard/mouse and controller controls depending on what you’ve used most recently. This is largely done through signs in the overworld, but also through UI hints. There are also a great deal of minor movement/physics/edge-case bug fixes and level improvements. Also, controller vibration during both regular play and the cutscenes.

Since my last post, I’ve also unfortunately stopped creating macOS builds. I intend to come back to this at some point and try to support it, but I’ve decided that supporting Windows and Linux (I do almost all of my development on Linux, so that part’s easy) is good enough for now. The main reason for singling out macOS is that I don’t have a modern Mac device readily available. That coupled with the fact that changes to the cross-section code, which is written in C++ for GDNative, would need to be recompiled and tested, means that I potentially have a fair bit a work to do when I get there, and if there are any other major changes to that code, I might need to do it again in the future. So for now I’m leaving that as a problem for my future self so I can focus on the platforms I have consistent access to.

Lastly, I would like to share that I will be at TooManyGames in June! This will be my first game convention outside of Ohio, so I’m excited to see what it’s like and meet some new people.
